. Access Act Society is undergoing a major social controversy for the implementation of the much-debated law that bans smoking in public places. This recent law binding on everyone's lips is the media over other laws that go completely unnoticed, probably because the first that fail are the authorities and themselves. We're talking about Basque Law for the Promotion of Access 1997 or the Equal Opportunities, Non Discrimination and Universal Accessibility of People with Disabilities 2003.
the other day said in a report on TV that there were more than 2,000 local inspectors and inspectors visiting to ensure the fulfillment of the smoking ban and give information of the first fines running into the first local refuseniks and closure of premises. And I wonder: how many inspectors and inspectors are in place to ensure non-discrimination against people with disabilities, how many fines have been for violating the Act Accessibility Basque, how many local (public or private) have been closed to veto the access and discriminate against people because of their disability? And how many continue to open with these characteristics discriminatory?
Unfortunately, we remain a collective invisible, like others, and it seems it is not as important to ensure our rights to ensure our equality as all other citizens. So if the inspection turns make a general review and urge you to remove the doorstep, the door is heavy, the counters are accessible and has toilet for all and everyone can use it would be a puntazo. Although we say it's budget, if you want you can do, as in the case of the controversial Anti-Tobacco Law. Sylvia Apodaca
